Just a few weeks ago, at quarter past nine, a staff member from the animal shelter in Dessau was returning to work. Though the shelter had already been closed for several hours, some animals needed their medication! So the devoted animal carer walked down the road leading back to the shelter.
A terrible discovery
Suddenly, from the corner of his eye, he noticed a cardboard box abandoned on the side of the road.
Andy, the animal carer, has been in his field long enough to know that a box left alone is bad news. He gently picked up the box, and carried it to the centre, which was just a few steps away.
There, he carefully opened it, and discovered a beautiful but very shy cat looking up at him.
The poor animal, who looked lost and freezing, must have been sitting in the cold for several hours already. Though the box also contained a blanket and some sawdust, it hadn't been enough to keep the poor thing warm. Luckily, the cat was saved just in time and is now being cared for at the rescue until she finds her forever home.
The terrible thing is that something very similar happened just a few weeks ago at the same shelter. It seems to be becoming something of a sad trend, especially in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
The shelter in Dessau is actively looking for the criminals responsible.
