They say that after years together, a pet and its owner start to look alike, but the latest cat video to go viral on social media shows they might begin to sound like each other too!
By, 7 Dec 2019
The hilarious clip shows a stripey ginger cat running through an apartment. When its owner finally catches up, the feline turns around and lets out a big meow that sounds more like a "well, hi!"
Did that cat just say hi?
What's more, it sounds like the mog has picked up a thick southern US accent.
The unnamed owner noticed the cat's distinct southern drawl straight away and decided to share the video on Instagram.
And although the funny cat video is an oversaturated market, the clip quickly turned viral, gaining over 1.3 million likes and turning a little ginger kitty named Gambino into a social media star.
Cat lovers posted thousands of comments, with one authentic southern belle giving her stamp of approval. She posted:
"I live in Mississippi and can confirm every grandma sounds like this."
Another one of Gambino's fans wrote:
"OH my God...She really said Well Hi with her cute southern accent.. and my wife and I heard it clearly."
The former stray found his new family in 2014, and they quickly realised he was a real little character.
His cat parent set-up an Instagram page dedicated to Gambino's adventures, and it soon gained thousands of followers.
Unfortunately we don't know much else about Gambino, and so we can only guess at the origins of his new accent.
Not your average cat video
Does he live in the south? Are his parents Southerners? Is he just a little copy cat?
It looks like we'll never know. But at least someone caught the memorable moment on camera. And as far as cat videos go, this is right up there with the best of them!
