It was just last week that passengers on a Regional Express train from Vienna (Austria) to Tulln (Lower Austria) discovered a saddening sight in the bathroom.

This is one train ride they are not likely to forget any time soon!

What could it be?

It all began when passengers started hearing strange noises coming from the bathroom. The door was closed, so passengers didn't want to disturb whoever was inside. Yet, the noises were getting louder and louder, and after a while, they knew something was wrong.

Finally, the passengers decided to open the bathroom door. What they discovered inside was a tiny Yorkshire Terrier puppy, no older than three months.

When the train arrived at its destination, some worried passengers brought the tiny pup to a local shelter. Staff at the shelter immediately made an appeal on social media: surely this adorable puppy belonged to someone?

But to their great dismay, the puppy was not microchipped or ID'd in any way. She had clearly been abandoned in the train – by a heartless person who didn't care about her fate.

A second chance

Luckily, since the puppy was so young and - not to mention - incredibly cute, hundreds of adoption applications were sent in.

Mia, as she has now been named, did suffer some minor injuries from being unrestrained inside the train prior to being discovered, so will need a little time to rest. But once she is strong enough, she will head off to her new forever home!

We are so glad Mia's story is ending so much better than it started!
