Lil Bub, a cat that won international acclaim and became an internet hit, has died. She suffered with a bone infection before her death and slipped peacefully away.

Lil Bub’s owner Mike Bridavsky announced the demise of his beloved pet on Sunday (1/12/19). He had for some time kept followers up to date with the progress of the cat’s “persistent and aggressive” bone infection, which he had been treating with holistic remedies.
None of them appeared to cure the infection, but Lil Bub was clearly comfortable in the days leading up to her death.
For his Instagram post Mr Bridavsky wrote, “On the morning of Sunday, December 1st 2019 we lost the purest, kindest and most magical living force on our planet. BUB was cheerful and full of love laying in our bed with us Saturday night, but unexpectedly passed away peacefully in her sleep.”
Lil Bub was born a runt of the litter. As a result of poor development while in her mother’s tummy she was born with dwarfism, no teeth, an underdeveloped jaw and extra toes.
Her strange appearance was part of what attracted over 2 million followers to her Instagram page “Iamlilbub”. But so too did Lil Bub have a zest for life. Despite, her various congenital conditions, she appeared otherwise healthy and happy.
Lil Bub also helped her owner to raise more than $700,000 (£540,000) for animal charities during her lifetime.
Her online presence brought her to the attention of TV media, and she made several appearances on US television.
From this she gained endorsements and earned money from advertising, all of which was siphoned to animal charities, including the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
On Instagram Bridavsky adds, “Bub has made a huge difference in the world of animal welfare, and in the lives of millions of people worldwide.”
Writes the BBC, he described Lil Bub as “one of nature's happiest accidents.”
RIP Lil Bub!
