Police officers in Manchester’s Police force have just received the best early Christmas present anyone could hope for in the form of nine new German Shepherd puppies to add to their ranks.
Jolly police officers
The nine pups were welcomed to the Greater Manchester Police’s Tactical Dog Unit and if the video is anything to go by, the officers in charge couldn’t be happier about it.
All brothers and sisters, the pups' parents are already hard-working police dogs. Currently just eight weeks old, the little ones will have their booster injections before starting play-based training to prepare them for life on the force.
The absolutely adorable video begins with a dog-loving officer surrounded by pups and laughing as each of the pooches crowd around for a little fuss.
As the video continues we see their individual personalities shine as a couple of pups doze together and another couple scramble towards the camera to get their five minutes of fame!
German Shepherds are often used as police dogs thanks to their incredible intelligence, courage, and sense of smell. All dogs have much better sense of smell than us (thought to be up to 40 times better in fact) but GSDs rank particularly highly making them an excellent choice for sniffer dogs.
Police dogs usually live with their police handlers and some officers may have up to four dogs at a time. We’re suddenly contemplating a change in career…
