How much do you really know about your neighbours? Just because they live close to you, you never suspect them of any wrong doing. But you shouldn't always trust appearances...

But in this case, the neighbours of a man living in an apartment building were forced to call the police.

Shocking discovery

Indeed, a strange smell was coming from his apartment. The man had been on vacation for at least a week and still hadn’t returned home, so it was impossible to ask him about the smell.

So the neighbours tried to ignore the disturbing odour for some time. But the smell didn’t fade, it only became stronger as time passed. Finally, the inhabitants of the building couldn’t stand it anymore. They decided to contact the police so that they could force entry into the apartment.

Animal neglect

When the police finally break into the rancid apartment, they are shocked. The smell really is unbearable. And the cause of all this hustle and bustle is soon found: when the man had departed for his vacation over a week ago, he had left his 8-month-old Maltese dog alone in the apartment, without food or water.

The apartment was of course covered in faeces. The dog’s fur was also completely matted with it. Dehydrated and hungry, the he was immediately taken to a local animal shelter so he could be checked by a vet.

Charges of animal cruelty were made against this dog’s now previous owner.

The adorable pooch is recovering from his ordeal and will soon be adopted into a loving, caring home.
