We love our pets, they provide hours of joy and affection, but this couple in Northern Italy can add “life-saving abilities” to the list of their cats’ attributes…

Violent storms have lashed much of Europe in recent days causing flooding and damage to property. One town that has seen much devastation is Liguria in Northern Italy.
It's here where Piana and Sabrina Pellegrini live with their two cats. In this usually idyllic village, torrential downpours have caused rivers to burst their banks, washing away bridges and even sparking landslides.
Unbeknownst to the couple, one such landslide had destroyed the foundations of their house.
A very lucky esacpe
On Monday evening they went to bed as usual, thinking they were safe in their home and protected from the terrible weather.
Thankfully, a few hours later cats Simba and Moose woke up their owners as they noisily played an unusual game.
Husband Piana said,
"My wife got up because Simba and Moose, our cats, were making a noise and woke us up…She realised they were playing with a piece of plaster which had just fallen off the ceiling. Then we saw cracks opening in the walls."
The couple rushed out of the house with their cats but found themselves trapped by a landslide of mud and rain. Thankfully, the fire service were nearby and rescued the couple along with Simba and Moose.
The house then collapsed completely and firefighters have said that the unfortunate couple will never be able to enter it again.
A sad tale no doubt but one that would have been far sadder were it not for the quick-thinking actions of their smart moggies.
