Nathan Sonoros had never owned a cat before. But when a cute little black stray kept turning up outside his house, he knew he'd found a best friend for life.
Nathan gets a new friend
'Loki' loved his new forever home, but as a former stray, he still enjoyed roaming around his old patch. Nathan would let him out a night, knowing his furry friend would always return by morning.
But earlier this year, it looked as if Nathan's worst nightmare had come true.
"I saw this black thing in the road up ahead as I was driving...I got closer and saw it was a black cat," he said. "My greatest fear of having an outdoor cat had been suddenly realized."
Overcome with grief, Nathan called his girlfriend, and together they decided to bury the cat in a quiet spot in their back garden.
The next day Nathan got up early to give his father a lift to work. But as the pair were just about to leave, Nathan heard a familiar meow.
And that's when he turned around and saw Loki strolling up the street!
Nathan couldn't believe his eyes, and although the sight of the 'dead' cat freaked him out, he was quickly overcome with joy!
"I just held him and bawled my eyes out like a baby," said Nathan.
The second coming of Loki
Nathan believes Loki had an identical twin and that he must have buried a different cat. However, he hasn't completely ruled out a more supernatural explanation.
"Did I wake up in a parallel universe where Loki hadn't died? Or did I wish him back to life?"
Only Loki knows what really happened, but until we learn to speak cat, the truth about the kitty that 'came back to life!' will remain a mystery.
