1.    You’ll feel delighted and terrified in equal measure

You’ve left the shelter and you are officially a dog owner. This experience will be exhilarating and terrifying in equal measure. Okay, maybe a bit more exhilarating but still terrifying.

2.    You’ll wonder if you’ve done the right thing

Dogs are creatures of habit. Their first night in your home will be tough for them (this applies to puppies as well as rescues) and they may cry or scratch or hide or refuse to eat. You’ll wonder if you did the right thing (don’t worry, you did).

3.    Your pooch will show you that you did!

You’ve been worrying that the dog isn’t happy or doesn’t like you and then, out of nowhere, she’ll come and sit on your lap or lay her head on your feet as you watch TV. This is just your first glimpse of the love and play that’s ahead.

4.    She’ll grow in love and confidence

Before long, those nervous first few days will be a distant memory. All of a sudden she’ll bring a toy to you while you’re eating dinner or curl up on your lap as you relax.

5.    You won’t be able to imagine life without her

Once your rescue dog knows she’s safe and you’re here to stay, she’ll become the best bud you ever had. As you both grow in confidence, you’ll wonder why you waited so long to get her.
