Nick and Voirrey Coole live on the Isle of Man with their three cats. The couple recently decided on a holiday to New York to celebrate Nick's 40th birthday.
A furry stowaway
Knowing they wanted to bring back loads of souvenirs, the couple checked in an empty suitcase at the airport. A short while later, the couple were pulled into an interrogation room by security.
And that's where they saw a familiar, but very unexpected, furry little face - it was Candy, one of their three pet kitties!
"We were totally shocked," said Nick. "She must have snuck into the bag before we left for the airport, but we didn't hear or feel her at all on the journey there."
Airport staff had spotted the feline outline as the suitcase went through the security scanners!
Smuggling pets (even by accident) through airports is illegal in the UK. Luckily for the couple, airport security decided not to prosecute. The Cooles were then allowed to continue on their holidays!
"My wife's father, Barry, came to pick [Candy] up and she's now back at home being looked after while we enjoy our trip," Nick said.
Candy didn't make it this time
Why Candy sneaked into the suitcases remains a mystery. The most straightforward explanation is that she was looking for a quiet place for a little catnap.
Or maybe she'd always dreamed of seeing the Big Apple and knew this was the only chance she'd ever get!
Unfortunately for her, this cat's wanderlust dreams never got off the ground. But we're sure her owners will bring back a nice souvenir for this mischievous kitty.
After all, they've got plenty of room in their suitcase!
