Paddy the cat outwardly seems to be a very normal (although very cute) moggy. He lives at home in the North West with his owners Christina and Stuart and seems to have a typical home life but it’s his regular outings that make him special.
A caring kitty
It seems that he regularly visits the nearby Co-operative funeral home to spend time with mourners.
Staff insist that the 8-year old cat always turns up exactly when he’s needed most, even walking down the aisle ahead of the coffin leading some to dub him “psychic”.
Jan McKinnon, a veterinary nurse, lost her cat-loving daughter to breast cancer and first met Paddy when she came to the home to arrange her funeral. Knowing how much her daughter loved cats, she secretly hoped that Paddy would turn up on the day of the funeral too. Paddy didn’t let her down.
"When he arrived I was so happy. He came along and even sat in an empty chair to listen to the service, it was like it became even more of a special occasion because he was there."
According to staff at the funeral home, Paddy has a sixth sense for when people need him most and has appeared at hundreds of funerals. According to funeral organiser, Carol Paton,
“During one funeral service, he made an appearance outside the window, just as the eulogy got to the part about the individual’s love of cats.”
We couldn’t say whether or not Paddy is psychic but we can say for certain that this story reminds us how lucky we are to have our furry friends.
