Leon was a common sight around Brazil's federal district, and on rainy days he'd often duck into the Order of Attorneys office building for shelter.
A stray cat looking for shelter
Knowing he had nowhere else to go, staff let the stray kitty cosy up near reception until the rain eased up.
But some people weren't impressed by the sight of a cat in such a 'professional' environment. They even filed official complaints that would have put Leon out into the street forever!
So the Board of Attorneys came up with a simple, and slightly unexpected solution - they gave Leon his very first 'job!' Now Leon can spend as much time in reception as he wants!
Leo was hired as a receptionists assistant, and his main duties involved greeting visitors and generally just looking super-cute!
The furry employee did such an excellent job that he quickly earned himself a promotion. Leon is now the world's first kitty lawyer, although he's still working on getting his own office.
One of Leon's human colleagues, Dr Jeanette Laredo posted the following message on Facebook:
"In order to avoid some new complaints the board gave the solution: Hire the cat as an employee… so, now it’s official this little fellow is responsible for welcoming the newcomers (whether they like it or not). ‘Edit: THIS CAT GOT A PROMOTION!!"
The post was shared over 11,000 times and Leon is building up a lucrative sideline as a social media celebrity. His Instagram page has over 70k followers.
A well-earned cat nap
Leon is now the most popular member of staff around the office and the place just wouldn't be the same without him! Dr Jeanette Laredo continued:
"Today, he is very dear to everyone. Even those who didn’t like him got used to his presence and have fun with him. His favourite place is President Auriney’s sofa."
