When Rick Hanestead from Winconsin surprised his 5-year-old daughter Hailey with a puppy, she was delighted and instantly fell in love.
The puppy quickly became an important member of the family. But as the pup began to grow and get bigger, the family from Wisconsin, USA, started to think that there was something a little strange about their new canine pal.
The pooch named Wiley didn’t always behave like a dog and had a rather unusual appearance.
After a few months of joining the family, Rick made the surprising discovering that the dog wasn’t actually a dog. Their new pup was, in fact, a coyote.
But the family had fallen in love with the affectionate animal, who had become very attached to little Hailey. So they decided to keep the coyote.
To make sure that Wiley was always as happy and comfortable as possible, Rick built the coyote an outdoor shelter to ensure it could feel at home in a more natural environment.
But while adopting a wild animal is not recommended, Wiley and Hailey have become inseparable and are still the best of friends. They play and even eat together. In fact, as you can see in this family video, in many ways, Wiley is like any normal family dog.
