A Bulldog with joie de vivre became the centre of attention at his human parents’ wedding last week. Meet Bernie, the Bulldog who just loves to have fun; no matter what the occasion.

When Rebecca Simpson and Charlie Hart decided to get married they knew there was one family member who could not be missing from the guest list.

North Carolinian Simpson adopted two year old Bernie six years previously. The Bulldog had a lust for life when he was a puppy. Now eight years old he is still as much the bundle of fun as he ever was.

For Hart, getting on with Bernie was as important as his relationship with Simpson. After all, never truer words are spoken than “love me, love my dog”. Fortunately, the boys got on well. In due course, the couple felt as though the time was right to be married.

Once the ceremony had taken place, Bernie was allowed to mingle. But mingling was clearly not what Bernie had in mind, especially since it was also time for posed wedding photos.

He actually bolted straight towards us when he saw us and someone had to scoop him up to avoid him covering my gown in sand and water,” Simpson told The Dodo. “We asked him to sit, but in typical Bulldog fashion he was only focused on what he wanted to do.”

Wasting no time, Bernie arrived on scene as the couple stood in the obligatory pose of the newlyweds with a lake behind them. The Bulldog dove into the water and swam for a while to the delight of guests and the photographer Jillian Knight, who continued to take pictures.

Knight knew how important Bernie was to Simpson and decided to include the dog in the bride and groom pictures. The results are, without a doubt, stunning. And for any dog lover considering marriage, to include your four-legged companion in your pictures may just be the perfect in memoriam.
