You can't put a price on the incredible bond between dogs and their humans. But although every pooch is priceless in our hearts, we still have to pay more for some breeds. So if you're looking for new best friend, here's a list of the 5 most expensive dog breeds in the UK.

5# Neopolitan Mastiff

Anyone looking for a Neopolitan Mastiff will have to fork out some big bucks. Pups sell for an average of £1,333! The good news is you get plenty of dog for your money. These big, muscular bruisers can weigh as much as 12 stone! To put this into context, that's heavier than Saul Canelo, the undisputed middleweight boxing champion of the world. Unsurprisingly, these imposing dogs make excellent guard dogs.

4# Chow Chow

Coming in at number 4 on our list is the Chow Chow. Expect to pay well over £1,000 for one of these pups. You'll also need to set aside some cash to cover their grooming costs. Chow Chows have a thick, bushy coat that gives them an adorable appearance, but it definitely requires lots of attention.

3# Japanese Shiba Inu

Known simply as the Shiba, the Japanese Shiba Inu is our third most expensive pooch. The average asking price is  £1,469, which is mostly due to how rare they are in the UK. These cute little Spitz dogs resemble a fluffy, friendly fox and make good family pets, especially for experienced owners.

2# Pomeranian

The super-cute Pomeranian is a little dog that comes with a big price tag! Would-be owners need at least £1,536 in the bank for one of these prized pooches! Pomeranians are a popular choice for many UK owners, and this recent spike in demand has driven up the price. But take note, Pomeranians suffer from several hereditary diseases which can lead to some costly vet bills.

1# English Bulldog

The top dog on our list of the UK's most expensive breeds is the English Bulldog. This stocky, iconic little character costs £1,690, and the expenses don't stop there. Bulldogs make wonderful pets, and those chubby cheeks will always put a smile on your face. However, the cost of owning one soon adds up. Their flat faces may lead to breathing problems, which often require expensive surgery to correct.
