It was in an old house in the city of Hamburg that the facts unfolded. In this house lived a 70-year-old woman and her 50-year-old daughter. But they were far from living alone…

A gloomy discovery

Alerted by a smell who was more and more difficult to bear and by a growing number of cats roaming the neighbourhood, but more precisely in the garden of the two women, neighbours called a few animal welfare associations.

Shortly after, a whole army of animal carer and professionals arrived on the spot. There was the presence of a veterinarian, employees of the County Veterinary Office, the health service, the public order service, the emergency service and a psychiatrist. In addition to all these people, there were also several employees of local associations.

When the door finally opens, it is a dark display that awaits for all the rescuers. Much worse than anything they could have imagined. In the house where the two women lived, there were piled up excrement, the stench of faeces as well as urine and it was everywhere. There were also dirt and a lot of it.

And there were cats, EVERYWHERE.

Rescuers were in horror when they discovered the body of a tiny kitten under a mound of earth. He still has his umbilical cord.

Finally, after several hours of work, 105 cats came out of the house to be treated and cared for as quickly as possible.

As for the two women, they are now prohibited from owning animals and must leave their home.
