Sometimes, a change in circumstances can mean that your pup will be happier in someone else’s home. But this isn’t the case here. This family just didn’t want to have their hands full – so they conveniently dumped their dog at a kill shelter when they found out they had a baby on the way.

The dog, a pit bull named Smiley, was having trouble getting adopted (as is too often the case with pitties), and was scheduled to be euthanised soon.
On the brink of death
By all accounts, he was a perfect dog: friendly, out-going, house-trained, and even trained to do certain commands! But still, no one wanted him.
And that’s when fate stepped in. Olena Kagui was scrolling through her Facebook when she saw someone post about Smiley. The caption read: “I’m a good boy, I would have loved that new baby! Please help me, I don’t want to die.”
And Olena knew she was taking that dog home.
A new beginning
At first, he was very nervous, certainly not understanding what he was doing in this strange home with these strange people.
But in the space of just three days, the good-natured pooch started to relax. His personality blossomed and his foster family fell head over heels in love.
So, Smiley became a HUGE foster fail – and stayed with his new mum Olena and her husband.
“He feels like part of our family,” Olena said. “It doesn’t take long for a foster dog to make their way into your heart. Our home would already feel empty without him here.”
We are so grateful this baby was saved – he deserved the loving family he got in the end.
