A photo of a loyal pooch patiently waiting next to his former owner's hospital bed has melted the hearts of dog lovers all over the world. It was this very photo that led him to a bright new chapter of his life.

By Ashley Murphy, 28 Jun 2019

Moose, a 3-year-old Labrador mix, was left tied outside of an animal shelter in 2017. After spending a few weeks at the Eleventh Hour Rescue centre, Moose found what he thought was his last forever home.

Moose never thought he'd see this place again

But sadly Moose's owner recently passed away, and the poor pooch found himself back at the same animal shelter in New Jersey, USA.

Staff desperately wanted to find Moose a new home, so they posted the picture across social media.

*** 6/19/19 UPDATE*** Thanks to so many kind and caring people who have shared this post, Moose's story has gone VIRAL...

Linda Barish is a volunteer at Eleventh Hour. She said:

“When the owner passes away, Eleventh Hour’s policy is we take the dogs back no matter what. We never in a million years thought that this would happen"

The image went viral, and the centre was inundated with offers to rehome the heartbroken pooch, including one couple who were willing to transport Moose all the way to Australian.

“They were one of the first applications we received on Moose,” said Barish. “They saw the post before it went viral.”

But a trip down under was a bit too far for this rescue pup, and there were plenty of options much closer to home.

So on June 22, just five days after the adoption request,  Eleventh Hour announced that they'd found Moose a new home! They posted the following message on Facebook:

“MOOSE HAS BEEN ADOPTED by a wonderful family who will care for and love him for the rest of his life!”

A sad beginning but a very happy ending

They also thanked everyone who shared Moose's story.

A picture tells a thousand words, but it looks like this one melted thousands of hearts; it also helped one sad pooch find happiness again.
