It sounds impossible, but it’s true. A Golden Retriever – yes that’s right, a dog – is mayor of Idyllwild California. The town is actually so small that it is non-incorporated, and so, had no human mayors in the past. It was the Animal Rescue Friends group who decided to sponsor an election and who kick-started Max’s campaign.
Pooch wins 2/3 of votes
The first election actually took place in 2012, and it was Max’s predecessor, Max I, who won and represented the town until he passed 6 years later.
Max II won the next election by a landslide, getting over half of the votes. He is now proudly head of the town along with Deputy Mayor Mikey and Deputy Mayor Mitzi, both cousins of the Mayor.
A shining star in the community
Mayor Mike’s duties include driving around in his Mayor-mobile, visiting various parts of town and meeting his faithful town residents.
Max has also done an awful lot to raise donations for the local animal rescue group. In addition, he’s brought the community together in a way that had never been seen before.
Max’s popularity has also brought attention to local businesses, which has been very helpful to the Idyllwild population, especially after last year’s wildfires.
Mr Mueller, Max’s human dad, says: “His role is to make the world a better place by conveying unconditional love and doing as many good deeds for others.”
We think Max is doing an excellent job of it. Keep up the good work buddy!
