Donald Trump is the first US president in the past century who doesn’t own a dog
Many say a man’s soul can be judged by the way he treats his dog. Well, we agree, but what if you don’t have a dog at all?

Trump landed at Stansted just a few hours ago, and his arrival is not going un-noticed. Many meetings have been arranged between the British government and he, to discuss business between the two countries – especially important in the midst of the Brexit. On the other hand, large groups of protesters have amassed in London, denouncing Trump’s policies.
It’s good to have a friend in politics
But what we’re most interested in – as usual – is any four-legged friends in the story. But here’s the thing about Trump: he doesn’t have any! And that sure is a particularity, because he is the first American president who doesn’t own a dog since the 19th Century!
All recent presidents in the White House have acquired a dog at some point during their term. Bill Clinton, for instance, owned a chocolate Lab named Buddy. Barack Obama had two Portuguese water dogs named Bo and Sunny.
The UK government has also gone to the dogs. Need we mention Queen Elizabeth’s love for her Corgis? Theresa May has also admitted in interviews that she is a dog-person and has always had dogs at home.
No pups for this president
Yet, Trump doesn’t seem too eager about the idea of owning a pet. When asked about it, he simply answered: “I wouldn’t mind having one, honestly, but I don’t have any time.”
It’s a shame Trump doesn’t want a pup in his life. In Harry Truman’s wise words: “If you want a friend in Washington, buy a dog.”
