If you found some sharp, mysterious scratching coming from a wall in your house, what would you do?

Most people would immediately believe they have a family of rats living amongst them and quickly run a mile in the opposite direction.

But this story might make you think twice about what’s lurking inside…

Something mysterious was hiding in the walls…

D.E.Heffun, from Tokushima in Southern Japan, posted the story on his Twitter account.

He explained that he was completely freaked out by mysterious, endless scratching sounds coming from the walls of his living room.

For a while, he ignored it. But after some time, he knew something wasn’t right - so he sucked it up, put on a brave face and cut a whole in the wall. Eek!

...but it turned out to be a kitten!

He was expecting a swarm of rodents or creepy crawlies, but no - all he found was a tiny, cute, fluffy kitten staring at him with big, friendly eyes! What a pleasant surprise, huh?

D.E.Huffun explained that he has no idea how the kitty got there, though his guess is that it snuck in through the loft and slid down a gap in the walls. Luckily, the kitten was completely free from injuries - a real tough cookie!

Now, they’ll be best fur-ends forever!

Huffun was convinced the kitty was a stray - and since no Mother was found in the area, he decided to adopt the cute little fluffball.

A couple of days after finding the kitty, he posted a video update with the caption: "maybe our meeting was a kind of destiny". Cute, right?

Well, it was certainly a unique way to get a new pet. But we totes think it was all down to fate - the lonely kitty needed a home, after all! We hope the pair will be very happy in their new companionship.
