Cannes Film Festival is the perfect time to meet your idols – whether they be human or canine. This may be the most popular ceremony for all famous pooches, a chance for all of them to meet their beloved fans.
A doggy kind of day
Created by Toby Rose, a British cinema journalist, the Palm Dog award has become a true pillar of the Cannes Film Festival over the years.
This year the event may be the greatest one yet, and not only because actresses Sally Philips and Roni Ancona will be present!
An honourable reward
We will be finding out what films are in the running for the award by the end of the week.
Last year, the movie Dogman, directed by Matteo Garrone, was the winner of this prestigious award.
The members of the jury (all film industry professionals), had voted unanimously on the film. Yet, the movie didn’t necessarily seem ‘dog friendly’, at first glance. It was actually focused on the life of a dog groomer, who, to make extra money on the side, was also a drug dealer. Rather than the movie being about dogs, it was more a chance for the director to shed light on the issues facing his country.
Perhaps the most famous winner of the award over the years was Uggie, the little Jack Russell who became a star when he rendered a touching performance in The Artist, alongside his human colleagues Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo. Though he won the award in 2011, the little dog spent the rest of his life touring the world to ‘sign’ autographs, and even left his paw print on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012.
We cannot wait to find out who will win this year’s award! Don’t miss a single instant of the event, make sure you are following us on Instagram!
