On Saturday 4th of May, young men from the Poviat Police Headquarters in Sulecin were on patrol in the Torzym commune of Poland. It was just a normal workday for them, until something happened that changed their lives forever.

It was at around 5pm on that day that the men on patrol noticed a German Shepherd Dog wandering alone by a busy road.

A lengthy rescue mission

The beautiful dog was very nervous. At first, he cowered away from the policemen who tried to get closer to him. It took them some time before they could even get near him. But soon, with lots of scratches and treats, they convinced the dog to hop on into the car.

As some people had witnessed the scene, they went to speak with the policemen. The Police were hoping to get some information regarding this dog’s owner, but what the witnesses told them was quite the opposite. The dog had apparently been wandering around the neighbourhood for a few weeks already. Someone had probably abandoned the poor animal.

The policemen knew what they had to do. They had to bring the dog to the nearest shelter, as is protocol when one finds a stray. But it was hard for them to think of the beautiful and trusting animal ending up behind bars.

And they lived happily ever after….

Suddenly, Officer Filipek had another idea. He was going to take the dog home with him.
The dog was re-named Atos and now lives in a warm home full of love, delicious food, and toys.

It was a sad start in life for the beautiful German Shepherd, but now he is living life to the fullest.

Remember that micro-chipping your pet is very important: if it is ever found wandering around like Atos, it can be returned to you with a simple check from the vet.

Meanwhile, we thank this kind policeman for giving this stray a home, and wish them both the best in their new lives together!
