As the final season of Game of Thrones ramps up the action, a handful of dogs are making their own claims for the Iron Throne.

Those battling for the most powerful seat in Westeros include a Pomsky version of Jon Snow and a tiny Yorkshire Terrier with three very large dragon eggs.

A king with four legs and a tail

One Instagrammer has even coronated his pooch,  a corgi named Joey. The post reads:

"Joey second of his name, of Shepherd Dr, the short wolf, the lord of treats, the prince who was promised, the king of the yard, blood of the corgi, or just call me Joey Snow who shall rule on the Iron Throne! But then again, I'm just a corgi, and I know nothing!"

Joey looks pretty pleased with his new position as ruler of the seven kingdoms, although I wouldn't want to be in his paws after Queen Cersei sees the post! The arch-villainess of the series has a fearsome reputation for dealing with any pretenders to the crown. Let's just hope this corgi has got the backing of the North behind him!

The show is set to become one of HBO's most successful dramas of all time and has already spawned loads of pet-related merchandise. Etsy seller MadeForPets has designed a Game of Thrones style pet-bed, while silverpawsdog are selling sets of House Targaryen and House Lannister dog tags and leads.

Winter is here

You can also buy a House Stark doggy coat. After all, winter is here!

Fans of the show are also naming their pets after their favourite characters.  PetFirst tapped into their database of dog and cat names and ranked the Top 15 Games of Thrones Pet Names. For the girls, the most popular choices are Arya, Gilly, and Khaleesi. Jon Snow, Bran, and Khal Drogo are the pick of the boy's names.
