Suki DOB 1/1/20
Spayed female Suki is without doubt one of the most amazing dogs you will ever meet. Suki is totally blind and was rescued for the streets of Egypt with her one remaining puppy, after the rest had been stoned to death by the locals for being “unclean”.
She was taken to a shelter with hundreds of other dogs and pretty much left to fend for herself, despite her disability. One of the most heartbreaking videos I’ve ever seen was of her running into the middle of a group of dogs at feeding time, grabbing a mouth full of food and running off to a corner to eat it, only to find the rest of the food gone by the time she returned for a second mouthful. Needless to say when she arrived in rescue with her puppy, both resembled toast racks they were so skinny and both had terrible skin conditions, due in part to malnourishment
Once her condition improved we had Suki spayed and she was on track to be promoted for adoption, but she started bleeding on a trip to the groomers and an emergency dash to the vet revealed she has a large sticker tumour protruding from her vulva. Six weeks of chemo later Suki was given the all clear, but despite her puppy Amber being rehomed virtually straight away, Suki has had no interest at all.
She is a medium sized girlie who still needs to gain a little weight as the chemo took its toll on her, but she really is the most amazing blind dog you will ever meet. I call her the seeing sightless dog as she leads her life as though she has eyes. She manages steps, navigates her way round the house and garden, takes herself in and out, climbs on the sofa and dining chairs without ever colliding with anything.
She lives happily amongst all the other dogs here and is the most loving, snuggly dog you will EVER meet. Suki loves people and will go up to any human she meets for a stroke and fuss. My vet said it is hard to believe she is blind as she conducts herself as a sighted one. On her trips to the vets she used to walk up and down the entrance steps like she’d been doing it all her life and head straight to reception for a fuss off the receptionists and staff.
As you can gather I am TOTALLY in love with Suki, but she deserves a home where someone will have much more time than I have to shower her with the love and attention she needs.
Suki will love to cuddle up on the sofa and in bed with you, so needs a home where there will be no restrictions to her movements and where she will be treated like the Egyptian Princess she truly is.
If you think you can offer Suki her forever home please pop onto our website at www.savingandrehomingstrays.org and complete an application form.
