Joy: male dog to adopt

  • Joy
  • Joy

This stunning Sabueso (Spanish hound) boy of around 2 years old, was found in a hunting area where hounds are often abandoned. Joy was taken in by somebody who cared for him for a while, but on having to return to his home country, Joy was taken to the local boarding kennel in northern Spain, where he currently lives with many other dogs waiting to find their forever homes.

Joy is cuddly and friendly with people, but it does seem he has sadly been mistreated in the past. He is very submissive to raised hands and loud voices, so he will need a gentle and kind family to help him settle. Joy is generally good with other dogs, and shares his space with males and females, but he can be dominant around certain larger male dogs (particularly when female dogs are around), so we feel he would be best as an only dog, or with a friendly and playful female of a similar age. Joy is generally clean indoors, though he can mark his territory - he is being neutered soon and we hope this will help calm the behaviour.

As he lives with day-round access to the outdoors, his new family will need to be patient with his housetraining and establish a consistent routine to help him learn. He would absolutely love a fenced garden to explore. Sabueso hounds are a beautiful breed - gentle, affectionate and great lovers of the outdoors. He will need an active home, where he can use his nose and go for long walks. With no history of Joy's background, we are looking for an adult only home, or one with older children (14+), no cats or small furries.

Joy is ready for his second chance, and we have no doubt he will make a family very happy. If you have the time, patience and energy to help him settle, adapt and learn about life in a home (lead walking, manners, being left alone, housetraining), please consider Joy. He will travel from Spain to the UK (England or Wales but not Scotland), neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for Meditteranean diseases.
