This lovely boy is Draco, a two year old Mastin mix. He is currently in a pound in northern Spain, desperately waiting for his ticket out of there! He is a social and active boy, currently confined to life behind four very small walls. This is no life for any dog, but a bouncy and young boy like Draco urgently needs to be in a home environment, with the chance to meet people, other dogs and to explore.
Draco is currently sharing his space with other dogs, smaller than him and large ones too, and he's good with them all. He approaches people for a fuss, and when brought out of the kennel he seemed happy with the attention. He will need some time to feel comfortable and happy in his new surroundings, as he has been in the pound for some time. We don't know much about his past, having arrived as a stray, and unfortunately don't have the option to test him around cats.
Adopting a dog from a pound environment requires patience, commitment, and the understanding that four walls and a cement floor has been the dog’s entire world until they join you in your home. Some pound dogs adapt quickly to life in a home, but many of the dogs we work with have spent months or even years in this environment, interacting only with humans during feeding times and when their run is cleaned out. Depending on their past experiences in life, they may have never seen the kind side of humans, never been taught how to walk on a lead, relax in a home or have experienced what it means to be loved and feel safe.
The pound is a noisy, stressful environment, with lots of dogs and lots of movement at times, amidst many days that all look exactly the same. No dog deserves this life, and we feel Draco would thrive in a home environment with care and attention.
For Draco we are looking for a home that is committed to patiently showing him what it feels like to live life outside of this environment. In reality this implies all of the training and care a puppy demands, but given to an adult dog who may have difficult past experiences that they bring with them. This certainly requires patience and time, but the reward of seeing a dog come out of their shell and enjoy life is a unique experience. Draco is a happy and active boy, who would thrive with the chance to run, explore and be somebody's loyal friend. Experienced homes, with high and fully fenced gardens and no children are preferred, due to the limited information we have on his past.
If you would like to change the life of a dog like Draco, please get in touch. We would love to hear from you. Please be aware that we only rehome dogs to England or Wales, but NOT Scotland.
